The Classic Staple Pieces That Fall Fashion Will Revolve Around

One of the best parts of the fall season is the restart of fall fashion. With so many key pieces you can wear and layer, fall is the season to show off all of your favorite items.

Every new fall season also brings in a variety of trends to try and incorporate into your wardrobe. Like any trend, you can take what you want and incorporate it into your style however feels best. This fall season brings in a mixture of classic pieces we already know but with a new twist. Pantone Color Institute's Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, explains how this fall season brings in a fresh new perspective on classic color trends. "As we move forward into an environment filled with contradiction, hues for Autumn/Winter 2022/2023 enable consumers to move fluidly between a range of contrasting shades, allowing them to spontaneously express who they are and how they feel on any given day," says Eiseman.

With these trends bringing in contrasting ideas together to make them into something new, you'll want to pick and choose trends that can work alone to express your style and can work with other unexpected pieces to bring your vision to life.

Clogs

As part of the Y2K comeback in fashion, clogs are making their way back into the spotlight. Thanks to fashion icon Bella Hadid, clogs are back in the spotlight. Recently, the model has been seen sporting a serious Y2K version of clogs named "The Bubble Clog" from the collaboration between Melissa and Simon Miller.

Even if you aren't keen on the bubble clogs, there are many versions out on the market, which suit any style. The Bubble Clog is one example of how you can turn a fun and eclectic shoe into a minimalist trend piece. However, if you want to maximize your shoe for the season, you can also opt for something like Larroude's Miso Clogs, which blend the classic tartan print with the funky clog shape.

One of the pros of wearing these '90s staples is that they can be worn almost year-round with any outfit. Whether you are transitioning from summer to fall or in the middle of fall, clogs are perfect for any situation. As well as being versatile, clogs are practical as you just need to slip them on and go. With no need to lace up or shimmy your foot into any shoe, making them perfect if you are in a hurry or simply running errands and need a chic look on the go.

Corsets

Since "Bridgerton" hit our screens in 2020, it has started a new fashion craze: regencycore. The fashion inspired by the hit Netflix show has taken over the runways and fashion lovers' closets with feminine touches and Victorian-esque designs. One of those pieces that are expected to become one of the core trends of the fall season is corsets.

According to Heuritech, corsets have made their way onto trends lists thanks to small business brands who have picked up this trend and made it readily available to the masses. This process is opposed to the usual flow from the runways to red carpets to the general public. Another twist to this trend is the fact that many of the corsets we are seeing for the fall season aren't the ones you typically see in the history books.

Taking a look at Versace's Fall 2022 Ready To Wear fashion show, we can see how the new versions of corsets are incorporating different details, making them more adaptable for everyday use. The corsets shown by Versace are made as blazers, long sleeve tops, and casual dresses. As well as using them as different everyday pieces, the fabrics corsets are being made with are more comfortable and casual for you to use. These twists let you wear corsets daily, either on their own or layered over another top for a complete fall look.

Leather

Although leather has always been a staple for colder months because of its tough but warm quality, this fall season will see a leather takeover.

However, this season will see another twist to a classic by merging the masculinity of leather with more feminine touches. Stitch Fix's stylist Amberly Reese tells The Zoe Report, "While we're still seeing these traditional elements, 2022's 'bikercore' trend also introduces an updated feminine twist on the classic style with denim-on-denim looks, leather jackets paired with flowy skirts, and biker-approved accessories." Reese also explains how the rise in leather is due to the resurgence of Y2K trends which explore more punk-inspired themes.

Even if you aren't into the harshness and edginess of leather biker jackets, there are plenty more ways that you can incorporate leather into your fall style. According to BSAMPLY, some of the more playful ways consumers can use leather this season are by using animal print leather, bright colored leather, and glossy leather texture. These leather twists are the perfect way to make your typical leather pieces into a modern and feminine statement piece for fall.

As well as using leather in your clothing, you can also opt for different leather pieces to add some of this texture to other aspects of your look. From leather tall boots to leather crossbody bags, there are many ways to wear this trend. If you are keen on a real statement piece, you can wear head-to-toe leather to fully encapsulate this trend.

White tank tops

Odds are that majority of people have at least one white tank top already in their wardrobe. Whether you use your white tank top as a comfortable piece to relax at home or as a layering piece, you will want to hold onto that white tank top after the summer. As the warmer weather trickles into the fall season, white tank tops will be the perfect trend piece to take you from summer to fall.

The summer version of this trend came in partial thanks to the off-duty model look that was made famous by celebrities such as Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Bieber. Wearing a simple white tank top with a basic bottom became the staple of minimalist summer trends. For fall, the white tank top remains a classic trend piece that you need to have in your closet. Assistant professor in fashion design at Fashion Institute of Technology, Mark-Evan Blackman, tells Refinery29, "[The white tank top] is so classic. It's timeless. [Today's] designers have used the item as a backdrop to bring forth their vision in a very contemporary time."

If you want to incorporate a white tank top in the fall, you can layer it under an open blazer or jacket. You can also opt to wear it as shown at the Prada Fall 2022 Ready to Wear show, where models showcased white tank tops with the brand's logo underneath oversized leather jackets or by themselves paired with statement skirts.

Cargo pants

The resurgence of cargo pants seems to be the child of the Y2K and minimalist trends. Thanks to these two popular styles, cargo pants are popping up everywhere. Although cargo pants used to be a go-to staple in the late '90s to early 2000s, they are also a staple for anyone who wants to show off a minimalist and carefree style.

Fashion writer India Roby tells The Cut, "I think people are into the cargo-pants trend because no one wants to feel restricted, whether that's physically with clothes, especially since it's so hot outside, or even in other aspects in life." Roby explains how nowadays, the importance of feeling free and comfortable, especially in the days after the first pandemic lockdown, is becoming more of a priority over style. With cargo pants, you can mix and match them to create a balance of chic and comfort.

Although cargo pants are notoriously known for their utility style, there are new feminine and modern twists that you can carry into the fall season. At the Valentino Fall 2022 Ready-To-Wear show, cargo pants were shown in the company's staple barbie pink color for a more feminine look. Besides sporting them in different colors, cargo pants can be worn with multiple tops to get the style you want. For example at the Isabel Marant Fall 2022 Ready-To-Wear show, the designer showcased cargo pants in different fabrics with evening-style tops, showing a stark contrast between the two pieces for a statement look.
